My first night in LA I walked past a girl at a party and she turned to me and said, "you're from SF, aren't you?" I thought, "dammit, am I dressed that poorly? Can you really tell just because I don't have on a peacoat?" Turns out she saw me on her friend's myspace page. Rather than feel like an outcast, I felt connected. LA is rad. It might be a sprawling metropolis with tens of millions of denizens, but I found it accessible and comfortable nonetheless. I saw many of the same kids at another party the next night. The more big cities I visit, the smaller the world gets.
